Here are two Bruckner 7ths a week apart in an international tour. They are both extraordinary performances, particularly the Rome version, which has wonderful playing from the orchestra. The Cairo version, almost as good, has better sound. In these performances the emphasis is more on architecture than in the 1949 concert, which is arguably more exciting.

Furtwängler had a special way with this symphony. I find that he is among the few conductors who can make the last movement work, giving it form and excitement at the same time. And there is always his magnificent Coda of the first movement. It is as sublime as this music can be.
