These are interpretations that represent a different point of view from what one normally hears. The symphonies represent two opposite types of humor. The Second Symphony has a creative and heroic humor that helps Beethoven towards the Eroica Symphony. The Eighth Symphony has a dark and destructive humor, with the loss of his heroic ideals, driving Beethoven towards his third and decadent period. This analysis is explained in more detail in the enclosed booklet.
